51°µÍø's Sellinger School of Business' Financial Risk Management and Insurance major equips students to recognize and address the complex risks that businesses face today. The program emphasizes the importance of integrating risk awareness into strategic decision-making and prepares students to analyze and manage—rather than simply avoid—risk to enhance organizational resilience.
Graduates are well-prepared to enter the insurance industry with the skills, certifications, and practical experience needed to make an immediate impact. Additionally, Sellinger graduates enjoy exceptional placement rates: 99.6% of Sellinger graduates are employed or pursuing further education within six months of graduation. Once employed, Loyola students have high earning potential with mid-career salaries around 30% higher than peer school graduates.

Leverage the skills and specializations you’ve built throughout the program in an application focused capstone where you'll hone problem solving, critical thinking and communication skills through collaborative real-world case studies in risk management and insurance.
Quantitative Financial Risk Management
Learn the quantitative and data analysis tools that drive the financial risk management industry. An emphasis is placed on how to interpret and effectively communicate complex quantitative risk management strategies and models to stakeholders. Topics covered include value-at-risk (VaR); loss modeling; survival analysis; Monte Carlo simulations; scenario analysis; decision tree frameworks and time series forecasting.
Our graduates will be prepared for a variety of roles in corporate risk management, insurance and reinsurance, financial institutions, consulting, and regulation.
Typical entry level financial risk management and insurance positions include:
- Insurance: Underwriter; Insurance Agent/Broker; Claims Adjuster/Examiner; and Actuary
- Financial Risk Management: Credit Risk Analyst; Bank Examiner; and Compliance Officer
