Keynote Speaker
Dr. Viney on his work on Pierre Teilhard de Chardin:
My interest in Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (1881-1955) dates to the early 1970s when I was an undergraduate philosophy student at Colorado State University. However, I did not begin publishing on Teilhard until 2006. Most of my professional life has been devoted to the philosophy of religion, with emphasis on the philosophies of Alfied North Whitehead (1861-1947), Charles Hartshorne (1897-2000) and Jules Lequyer (1814-1862), some of whose works I've translated. When I returned to a more in-depth study of Teilhard, I came to realize that he not only belongs to the modern tradition a/process philosophy/theology, but also that he is one of its pioneers. His writings on these subjects predate the classic statements of process thought of both Whitehead and Hartshorne, although they were not properly published until afier his death due to the Church 's interdiction on his works. To date, my work on Teilhard includes articles, book reviews, and translations.
